Betty A (Nimmons) Graves

November 10, 1928 - March 27, 2021

Betty A. (Nimmons) Graves, 92, went to be with the Lord on Saturday March 27, 2021. She was born November 10, 1928 in Sandusky, OH to Luther and Mattie (Witner) Nimmons.

She learned to play the piano by ear, never learning to read music. She played at several churches in Sandusky: Ebenezer Baptist Church, New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church and St. Stephen AME Church. She also loved sewing, arts & crafts and bowling. Betty and her sister Shirley formed their children into a family choir, Graves and Alexander Singers, and they performed throughout NE Ohio.

She did housekeeping for the Schirg family, she was a barmaid at Brownless, a Head Start teacher and she retired from Sandusky Plastics, all in Sandusky, OH, after 27 years.

Betty is survived by her sons Allen Graves of Sandusky, OH, Robert Graves of Las Vegas, NV, William (Rosann) Graves of Port Clinton, OH and a daughter Kathi (Joel) Kirksey of Lorain, OH. She is also survived by her special grandsons Allen Graves Jr. and Brett Graves, both of Sandusky, OH; three brothers: Ernest Nimmons of Lorain, OH, Lewis Nimmons of Orlando, FL and David Nimmons of Cincinnati, OH. She has eight grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Fulton Graves Jr., beloved friend John W. Hurd Jr., brother Luther Nimmons Jr. and sister Shirley (Nimmons) Alexander.

A public viewing will be Monday, April 5, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 Noon at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870, where Rev. Clayton E. Howard is pastor. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery.

Social distancing, Covid-19 safe practices and wearing a mask are required.
