Norma Jean Ricks

March 30, 1942 - December 30, 2020

Norma ‘Jean’ Ricks, a long-time resident of Lorain, transitioned from this life December 30, 2020.

She was born in Weirton West Virginia March 30, 1942. She was raised by her grandparents, “Mom & Pop Huddleston,” who then set out to build a church in Lorain Ohio under the leadership of Pastor Allie H. Stevens, The Apostolic Church of the Living God Pillar Ground of Truth, which is now known as New Life Deliverance Ministries, Presiding Pastor Berry of Lorain Ohio.

Norma retired from Mike Bass Ford after 25 plus years. She was in a traveling singing group as a teen. After being married she enjoyed traveling with her husband and riding motorcycles. She also enjoyed talking and joking with her grandchildren. She loved cooking Sunday meals, playing cards “tonk,” listening to gospel music, watching Steve Harvey and playing bingo scratch offs.

She was fun, had a great sense of humor and a way with words. She was the living spark of life. she had a unique perspective of thinking and spoke words of encouragement.

She is survived by her children, Michael Ricks, Cynthia Beckett, Jeffrey Ricks, Terry (Stephanie) Ricks, Jerry Ricks and stepson Scott Ricks; brothers, Wyatt Colquitt and Christopher Colquitt; sisters, Adria Colquitt, Lucretia Colquitt, Stephanie Colquitt, Cynthia Colquitt and Felecia Colquitt; three close sisters-in-law, Shirley Mae Kelly, Delores Jackson and Betty Rhymes; two brothers-in-law. She and her husband raised Melvin Ricks and Milton Ricks and a granddaughter, Sheritta McCall Fairley; 27 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Linus Ricks; parents, Louie Vernon Colquitt & Louise (Roseberry) Colquitt; her grandparents, Wyatt & Mandana Coleman Colquitt, Ferry Roseberry, Claude “Pops” & Annie Eliza “Mom” Huddleston; brother-in-law, Horace Ricks.

A public walk-through viewing will be Monday, January 11, 2021 from 11 AM until time of private family services at 12 PM at New Life Deliverance Ministries, 400 Washington Ave, Lorain Ohio. Minister Kimberly Carlton-Massie will officiate. Pastor Ray Robinson of Living Word Church will eulogize. Interment will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
