Golaree O Coles

Golaree O. Coles, a longtime resident of Lorain, passed away December 25, 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio.

She was born in Marion, Alabama to a large and loving family, including 8 siblings and her parents, Roland and Cornelia Osburn.

Golaree graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to attend Tennessee State College where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Education and Home Economics. Golaree began her career with the U.S. Government as a stenographer at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama. She later relocated to Buffalo, New York, then to Lorain, Ohio.

In Lorain, she taught junior and senior high school in the Lorain County School system as a substitute teacher for Business and Home Economics. Golaree also taught adult education evening classes in sewing and tailoring. Golaree retired from the school system in 1990 after 28 ½ years. Golaree was also an extremely talented seamstress and worked for Bridals by Michele of Lorain for 18 years. During her free time, she was known to make exquisite outfits by hand for friends and family.

Golaree was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she served on the Usher Board for 18 years. She also served on the Board of Trustees and the Public Relations Committee. Golaree was a free spirit with a love for trying new and adventurous things. She was an avid bowler and a member of the Lake Shore Bowling League for many years. She loved line dancing, reading, working on her computer, playing the piano, traveling, and visiting the sick and shut-in.

Golaree is survived by her daughter, June Hassan Bell; five granddaughters, Africa, Shola (Desmond Asante), Renita, Valeda, and Victoria; greatgrandchildren, Tristan, Julius, and Majesty; siblings, Christine O. Jackson of Charleston, S.C, and Johnnie O. Dent (Howard Dent II), of Atlanta, GA.

She was preceded in death by William Coles, her husband of 39 years, and her parents Roland and Cornelia (nee Scott) Osburn; a granddaughter, Maria; siblings, Roland Osburn, E. Randel T. Osburn, Delphine O. Thornton, Zimmie O. Russell, Cora Osburn and Blanchie O. Stewart.
