Mattie P. Dixon

February 10, 1927 - October 4, 2018

Mattie P. Dixon (nee Wright), 91, of Lorain, passed away on October 4, 2018 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain. She was born in Wrightsville, Georgia on February 10, 1927 and moved to Lorain, Ohio in 1943.

Mattie was a homemaker and a former employee at U.S. Steel. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking care of her family. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Lorain where she was a Church Mother and former usher. Her favorite bible reading was Psalm 23.

Mattie is survived by a daughter, Rose M. Rateliff; five grandchildren, Pamela Brown (Charles Brown), Michael Phillips (Angela Phillips), Dwight Seymore Jr., George Seymore, and Tameka Walker (Eric Walker); a host of great and great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Dixon; three sons, Benjamin Dixon, Robert Dixon, and Dwight “Bubba” Seymore Sr.; a grandson, Ernest Dixon; her parents, James Wright and Mattie P. Wright (nee Cooper); seven brothers: James, John Lee, Forest, Chris, William, Charlie, and Grady Wright.

Friends may call on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 300 W. 13th St., Lorain. Pastor Loversier Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
