Doris Huff

July 3, 1924 - July 20, 2018

Mrs. Doris Huff departed this life on July 20, 2018 and entered into eternal rest at Wesleyan Village, Elyria, Ohio following a long illness. She was born to the union of Carrie and Moses Crisp Sr. on July 3, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of Lorain, Ohio. Mrs. Huff was raised by Rosalie Brown who she called “Ma”. She attended Lorain City schools graduating from Lorain High School’s class of 1943A. She married the late James E. Huff in 1947 and was the proud mother of 13 children.

Mrs. Huff was devoted to her family and fashioned herself with dignity and pride while raising her children. She was a home maker until the last of her 13 children went to school. She always felt that having a relationship with God, morals and standards were great attributes of life and purposed to instill this in her children as well as others. Mrs. Huff was an excellent cook and was known for her famous homemade donuts that was a favorite among her children and grandchildren. Completing word-search puzzles was one of her all-time favorite pastimes.

She was a lifelong faithful and active member of Second Baptist Church, Lorain until her health failed and she was no longer able to attend. As a member of Second Baptist Church, she worked diligently with children as a Sunday School teacher and impacted the lives of many over the years. Mrs. Huff was a member of the Missionary Society, 50+ Club Ministry, Pastor’s Aide Committee, Senior Fellowship Ministry, Culinary Department and served as the Assistant Church Clerk for many years.

Having such a gift with children, she shared her talent with the community while working for the Lorain City School System for many years as a Cafeteria Aide. Mrs. Huff was an active member of PTA at Hawthorne-Boone Elementary/Jr High and Lorain High Schools having served as a Past Vice President; she also was a Band Parent and member of the Booster Clubs while her children were in school. She believed in being involved with her children’s education. Later in life she volunteered for the Reading and Mentoring Program of Lorain City School System.

Mrs. Huff is survived by 10 children: Aubrey Huff, Gretchen Brown (James), Marsha Terry (Wayne), James Huff, Norman Huff, Susan Patton (Kenneth), Edward Huff (Dawnyelle), Craig Huff (Leslie), Michael Huff, all of Lorain OH, and Tracy Huff of Toledo OH; 22 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; a brother Gene Carr, Detroit Mi; sisters-in-law Ruth Huff-Hamilton, Lorain OH; Annie Huff, Elyria OH, Ethel Huff, Toledo OH, and Dorothy Huff, Youngstown OH; brother in law August Reese, Cleveland OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Huff; sons Vincent Crisp and Jeffery Huff; a daughter Gwendolyn Huff-Holloway; and granddaughter Jacqueline Brown.

Homegoing services will be on Thursday July 26, 2018 at Second Baptist Church 300 W. 13th St. Lorain OH 44052 with family hour at 10:00am and services at 12:00; Rev. Loversier Lewis officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Avon OH immediately following service.

The Family will receive guests at 2446 Reid Ave Lorain, Ohio starting July 25, 2018. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
