Geneva Willis

July 18, 1924 - August 25, 2017

Geneva Willis, 93, of Lorain passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Wisner, LA on July 18, 1924 the daughter of the late Dave and Virginia Harris. She had lived in Medina, OH moving to Lorain, OH in 1945.

She was employed for 19 years at St. Joseph Hospital retiring in 1989. Her major interest and hobbies were the Church, Sunday Church School, traveling, sewing and spending time shopping for suits and hats. She loved gardening and spent every day reading the word of God.

She was the longest standing member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Lorain. She began her membership in March 1947 and was a faithful member until her health declined. She was a member of Mount Zion for 70 years. As a member of Mount Zion, she was active in the church serving with the Sunday Church School, a member of the Mount Zion Chorus and Senior Choir, the Rose of Sharon Club, Baptist Nurture, Entertainment Committee, the Missionary Society and she was a Deaconess. She served her Lord well and she will be greatly missed.

Geneva leaves to rejoice in her home going and cherish her memory, three sons: Sullivan (Gwendolyn Tye) Willis, Jr. of Akron, OH; Johnny (Rozlinda) Willis, Sr., of Las Vegas NV; Fred Willis of Las Vegas, NV and Melvin Nelson of Lorain, OH whom was like a son; three daughters: Vera (James) Moye, of Belleville, MI; Dorothy (Wesley) Easter of Columbus, OH and Jeanette (Stan) Riley of Lorain, OH; 18 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren 6 great-great grandchildren; Brother James Harris of Milpitas, CA and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Juanita Willis, Sons, Henry Lee Willis and Ernest Lee Willis; Parents Virginia and Dave Harris; Siblings Rosie Lee Milliken, Elizabeth Donald, Samuel Harris, Alf Harris, Ruthie Lee Parsinitz, David Harris, Sr., and Willie Harris.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1516 East 30th Street in Lorain. The Rev. Donald K. Young is Pastor. The Rev. Dr. Melvin J. Woodard, III, Pastor of New Salem Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana will officiate.
